History and Archaeology of Arunachal Pradesh:
The state is very much rich historically as well as Archaeologically some of the important sites and historical monuments described below :
1. Malinithan :
It is situated in the foothills of the West Siang District. The architecture of the temple is of Orissan style. Important sculptures are Indra on Airavata, Kartikey on peacock, Surya on Chariot, Nandi Bull and Bramatical images etc. Most of these are made of granite and sand stone. It is dated back to C; 10-12 A.D. An interesting legend is associated with Malinithan. Malini-Mela is organized every year in April correlating the Basanti Puja.
2. Ita fort :
It nis situated in the Papum Pare District. It is a historical fort of an irregular shape built mainly with bricks. There are three gates on three sides viz, Eastern, western, and Southern,, The fort is said to be built by Ahoms. It can be dated back to C. 1350 to 1550 A.D. It is estimated that more that 80 lakhs of bricks , 45 c.metre of stones and 46300 man were required in building up of the fort. There is a Archaelogical museum situated at Western Gate.
3. Bhalukpung :
It is situated on a hill-lock in the foothill of West Kameng District, it was said to be of ancient capital of King Bhaluka the grandson of Bana. No Archaeological remains of the historical fort are now existed. It is dated back C. 10 to 12 A.D.
4. Naksaparbat :
It is situated in the East Kameng District. Significant Archaeological findings are stone built plinth of houses, a ring well, few sculptural pieces etc, belonging to the Medieval Period (C.14th-16th A.D.
5. Vijayanagar Stupa :
It is situated in the Changlang district. It has an octagonal platform with relief design. Burial mounds are there around Stupa. The Stupa depicts Buddhist culture of Hinayana Sect. It belongs to the 18th Century.
6. Parasuram Khund :
It is one of the important pilgrim places of North East india situated in the Lohit District. on every Makar Sankranti day (14th January) the pilgrims comes drom different parts of the country and takes a holy dip in the Kunda. Legend of the Kunda is associated with Parasuram's matricide. A grand mela is organized on the occasion since 1985.
7. Bhishmak Nagar :
It is situated near Roing inn Lower Dibang Valley district. The fortress has an elogated Semi-Circular shape extending over an area of about 10 sq.km. The main centre of the complex have a bricks built palace of 1860.52 mtr. plinth area. The name is originated after its king Bhiskmaka. It may be dated between 12th to 16th centuries A.D.
8. Megalith :
A megalithic site is situated at jamiri in west Kameng district. No cultural correlation of these megalithic can be made with the local inhabitants, the Akas or Hrusso.
9. Parsi Parlo :
It is a Neolithic site is situated in the Kamla valley of Kurung Kumey district. The tools and other valuable findings indicate that some Neolithic men were inhabited there.
10. Tawang Monastery :
It is situated majestically on a hill top near Tawang, headquarter of Tawang District. It is one of the biggest Monasteries of Mahayana sect in Asia founded by Mera Lama Loder Gyatso in 1681 A.D. The fortified complex cverd an area of 135 sq. metres enclosed by a compound wall of 610 m. long. Within the complex there are 65 residential buildings and 10 other structures. The library has valuable old scriptures mainly Kanjur and Tanjur numbering 850 bundles. It is dated back to 17th century A.D. There is a museum inside the monastery.
11. Gomsi :
An Archaeological site of medieval period situated at Gomsi (Rani Village) near pasighat in East Siang district, the trace of old habitation over an area of eleven acres or so found. A portion of ruins surrounded by earthen ramparts and nallahs.. Two big earthen mounds a pond plinth of a few dilapidated houses is also located in the site.
12. Mud Fort :
A huge mud fort at Haliduba near Tezu in Lohit district belonging to C 15 A.D. discovered recently. The Fort covers an area of 43.68 acres of land. The Fort comprises of an earthen enclosure, ,oat and a high earthen mound.
13. Taklung Gompa :
An oldest Gompa belonging to C 16 A.D. of Mahayana sect of Buddhism is situated in Sanglam village under Kalaktang Circle in West Kameng district, which is renovated recently, depicted the rich traditional of buddhist are and cultures.
