The Tribes of Arunachal Pradesh :
Arunachal Pradesh is Having 26 Major Tribes and more than 100 Sub-Tribes. It is exclusively a tribal state (Schedule Tribes) as per 2001 Census. In the Third Schedule of the Constitution of India (Schedule Tribes) order of 1950, listed in the Part XVIII of India Constitution.
Some Indigenous Tribal Communities are as Follows :
1. Monpa :
The Monpas are spread in the Dirang Circle, North of Bomdila, The Kalaktang Circle in the South Western part of the West Kameng District and the entire Tawang District is inhabited by them.
2. Sherdukpen :
The Sherdukpen live in a long and narrow strip of valley in the Bomdila Sub-Division of West Kameng District. Their Homeland is located in between the Monpa area of Kalaktang and the Bomdila Circle.
The Sherdukpen call themselves as Senji-Tangji, but they prefer to be addressed as Sherdupen.
3. Aka :
the Akas of West Kameng Called themselves as Hrusso. They live in the Hilly region of the Nafra-Buragaon sub-division drainned by the Bichom (Humschu), Tengu Pani (Hudhu) and Kheyang (Khuwa) Rivers.
4. Miji :
The Mijis who call themselves Dhammai, live in the Bichom and other river valley's in the Nafra-Buragaon sub-division of West Kameng District.
5. Bugun :
The Buguns are living in the east of the Rupa are occupied by the Akas and on the west by a high hill known as Thongpula which separates the Sherdukpen area from the the Kalaktang regions inhabited by the Southern Monpa.
6. Nyishi :
The Nyishis are the largest ethnic group of the State. Most of East kameng District is coverd by the Nyishis, Most of the Lower Subansiri District is coverd by the Nyishis, they are in lots of Districts like Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, Kamle, Papum Pare etc. even they are spread from Arunachal to North Likhimpur or Sonitpur of Assam.
7. Sulung/Puroik :
The Sulungs who call themselves as Puroik, are widely dispersed groups of a small tribes inhabiting the remote hills across the north-eastern exremity of East Kameng, Kurung Kumey, Kra Daadi, and Papum Pare Districts etc.
8. Tagin :
The Tagins are almost the whole northern and north-eastern parts of Kamle and Upper Subansiri Districts adjoining Kameng and Siang Districts is inhabited by the Tagins.
9. Apatani :
The Apatanis are the people of the Apa-Tani Valley, a plateau situated at an altitude of about 1,524 meters ringed by the mountains. The Plateau lies between the valley of Kamle/Kamla and Khru on the north and panior on the South.
10. Galo :
The Galos are numerous in population, inhabiting in the Alo Sub-Division, Basar, and Yomcha area. A branch of Galos is settled in the Daporijo Sub-Division where they mainly concentrated in the Duporijo. And it can be say that Galos are spread in some parts of East Siang, West Siang, Lepa Rada, and Upper Subansiri Districts.
11. Adi :
The Adis can be consider as Second largest Ethnic group of the State after Nyishi. They are Settled and concentrated in the part of North-East of West Siang, upper Siang, Siang, East Siang, and Lower Dibang Valley etc.
12. Memba :
The Membas live remotely along the northern border of the West Siang District. The Membas inhabit a part of the Mechuka Circles and the area around Gelling Circle of the Tuting Sub-Division.
13. Khamba :
The Khambas also live remotely along the northern border of the West Siang District. The Khambas inhabit in the region of Yang-Sang-Chu Valley occupying a part of Singa Circle of the Tuting sub-division.
14.Idu Mishmi :
The Idus living in the Lower Dibang Valley and the Dibang Valley district in the northern and western part of the District. The area inhabited by the Idus is a vast and formidable mountainous terrain extending from the Indo-Tibetan border on the north to near the confluence of the Lohit and Dibang rivers on the South.
15. Khamti :
The Khamtis are settled in the lower region of drained by the Tengapani and Noa-Dihing. The area lies to the south of the Lohit river Continous to the Tirap District.
16. Nocte :
The Noctes inhabit the south western and central parts of the District of Tirap. The Nocte area is roughly bounded by the Tirap River in the east and the Tisa River in the West, the patkai Range in the south and the Plains of Assam in the north.
17. Wancho :
The Wanchos live in the Londgding District, Tisa Rivers in the East and Mayanmar in the South and East.
18. Singpho :
The Singphos live in the foothills area of the northern part of the Changlang District, i the Miao sub-division. The tract is waterd by the Nao-Dihing and Tributaties of Burhi-Dihing.
19. Yobin :
The Yobins, also called Lisus, settled in several villages along the Noa-Dihing rivers in the Vijayanagar area of Changlang District.
20. Tutsa :
The Tutsa, a small group of people living in Changlanglang District.
